THE ARTIST
HARMEET SINGH (b. 1965)
Studio Practice: New Chandigarh, India
Harmeet Singh is an Indian contemporary artist based in New Chandigarh, working primarily in watercolour and acrylic abstraction.
His practice examines how structure and instability coexist within the painted surface. Across both mediums, the work stages a sustained negotiation between containment and release — watercolour through diffusion and absorption, acrylic through resistance and density. Each painting unfolds through repetition, interruption, and recalibration, allowing form to emerge through tension rather than assertion.
Rather than functioning symbolically, the works operate perceptually. Structure is not imposed but tested. Fields of colour, gestural arcs, and spatial thresholds construct environments that require duration — where looking becomes an active process.
Working from his studio, Singh develops parallel bodies of work on paper and canvas, extending a continuous inquiry into material intelligence and chromatic structure.
His work has been presented in Institutional exhibitions in India and Europe, including World Art Dubai, Voghera Gallery (Milan), Jaipur Centre for Culture & Arts, Indian Council for Cultural Relations (Kolkata), India Art Festival (Bengaluru), State Gallery of Art (Hyderabad), and Bombay Art Society (Mumbai).
Forthcoming show at Qatar International Art Festival Dec 2026, QATAR.
